Officials from Hunan and Oudomxay of the Lao People's Democratic Republic signed a letter of intent in Changsha on the morning of February 20, to establish a sister province relationship.
Secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People’s Congress Du Jiahao met with provincial governor of Oudomxay, and attended the signing ceremony.
Secretary Du welcomed Lao guests. China and Laos are friendly neighbors linked with mountains and waters. Hunan and Oudomxay, both inland provinces, have similar geographical and natural environment, and thus enjoy huge potential for cooperation. Hunan would vigorously engage in implementing the national “Belt and Road” Initiative, to accelerate social and economic development while building closer relations with Laos and other Southeast Asian countries. Hunan enterprises are encouraged to further expand international cooperation in such sectors of trade, culture, tourism, and agriculture, for win-win results and common development.
Oudomxay governor was impressed by Hunan’s growth. He vowed to respond to the “Belt and Road” Initiative, and learn from Hunan’s experience in reform and development. He also expected that more Hunan enterprises would start business in Oudomxay, to make more fruitful and prosperous exchange and collaboration.
